A basketball hoop standing alone on an asphalt court at the foot of a scrub-covered hillside.

Regulation

I made this photo when I was living in Wrightwood, where intense landscapes play a huge role. Every cul-de-sac in every suburban development in every suburb in America has a basketball hoop in it. This was no different, really. Except this cul-de-sac was in the mountain town, and something about an everyday item is heightened by a non-flat horizon. Everything felt that way there — dead-end road signs, RWD cars, acai bowl stores — they just felt out of place. It's the 90% nature / 10% human-trace thing I find captivating in photos. Not much more to say. I don't remember anything about this day, why I was in this cul-de-sac, or being struck with artistic passion. Just saw a basketball hoop with a dramatic landscape behind it.
